T.F.Reid & Donaldson traces its roots back to 1878, when Thomas Fulton
Reid put up his professional brass plate in Paisley at the age of 21. As business
did these days, the firm moved around a variety of offices in central Paisley
before settling for many years in the High Street. We moved from that office
to our present site (which incidentally and coincidentally was the home of
our Senior Partner's great grandfather) in the 1950s.
It's surprising that in the 120 years of the firm's existence, there have only been 14 partners - and that includes the present 5. We've had some very loyal and long serving staff and partners in the past - and not only in the past: at the moment no less than six members of the team have been with us for over 20 years.
We are very proud that some of our clients are equally loyal and long standing, and some may have memories of the firm which we would be glad to share. Please do tell us anything you can remember of partners or staff in the years before 1960 - or of our premises before we moved from 14 High Street to 48 Causeyside Street for our scrapbook.
Currently the firm consists of 5 partners and 11 members of staff, which includes 3 paralegal staff. We were the first firm in central Scotland to be awarded Investors In People accreditation in 1997, and again the first to have accreditation renewed in 2000, and we apply IIP disciplines all the time to provide training to our staff so that they can all contribute to the performance of the business. We encourage every member of the staff to take a pride in the professionalism of what they do and we see ourselves as a highly trained team, united in delivering a quality service to our clients.
Although we are proud of our history, and the reputation which we believe we have earned, we are conscious that we can maintain that reputation only by what we are doing now and in the future and it is to the future that we look.
T.F.Reid & Donaldson was early to embrace technology and we recognize the necessity for upgrading our systems regularly. We are embarking on a major upgrade at the moment, only some two years since our last such move. Our computer system is networked throughout the office and we are linked internally for e-mail communication as well as externally, via fast broadband technology. Such technology is valuable not just for communication purposes, but also in providing us with fast access to research materials.
At T.F.Reid & Donaldson we keep ourselves up to date with developments in law and practice by regular attendances at seminars and conferences and partners and other staff frequently give talks and seminars themselves. We have over the years contributed articles to the local press and given addresses to various interest groups. T.F.Reid & Donaldson plays its part in the wider legal community in Scotland. At the moment one partner is Dean of the local Faculty of Procurators (or Solicitors) and another is a member of the Council of the Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet, one of the oldest bodies of lawyers in the world.
T.F.Reid & Donaldson encourages a lateral approach to clients' problems. Often the best solution is not doggedly proceeding along the orthodox route over the obstacles, but working out a way of going round them.
T.F.Reid & Donaldson is a firm with strong links with the West of Scotland, proud of its past but looking to the future - your future.
